What is Belzona and what is it used for?

Belzona manufactures polymeric composite materials – metal repair pastes, coatings and casting compounds – to repair, protect and improve industrial equipment and structures. Typical applications include pumps, heat exchangers, tanks, pipes, concrete, floors and chemically exposed environments.

Does equipment need to be taken out of service for a repair?

Often no. Many Belzona systems are cold-applied with no welding or hot work, so adjacent equipment can stay in operation. Some solutions – such as SF₆-FIX sealing – are even performed while the asset is live, by certified personnel.

With the right product selection, surface prep and application, repairs are a long-term solution – not a temporary fix. Belzona has over 70 years of documented experience and case studies of repairs still performing after 20+ years in harsh environments.

How important is surface preparation?

Critical. Adhesion depends on cleaning, degreasing and the correct surface profile (typically grit blasting to SA 2½ with a specified roughness). Each product's IFU (Instructions For Use) defines exact requirements – follow them to achieve maximum service life.

Does Belzona resist chemicals, heat and erosion?

Yes, with performance varying by product. There are systems for immersion in acids/alkalis, in-service temperatures up to ~200 °C, and wear/erosion protection for pumps and cyclones. We help you choose based on medium, temperature and mechanical load.

Are the products approved for potable water and food contact?

Accepted Answer

Several Belzona systems are certified to WRAS/DWI and other standards for potable water contact, with approvals for food industry use. Ask us for the current certificate for the product you're considering.

Who applies the products – can we do it ourselves?

Accepted Answer

Both options exist. Belzona can be applied by your own personnel after training, or by our authorised contractors across Sweden. For critical or complex jobs we recommend certified applicators.

Yes. Svensk Kompositteknik AB – the authorised distributor – provides product advice, on-site support, documentation and training. We support you from problem analysis to finished solution.
